Summer School on Ecophysiological Field Techniques in Climate Change and Pollution Research

COST Action FP0903 organized a 5-day Summer School on Ecophysiological Field Techniques in Climate Change and Pollution Research, with the main aim of providing young researchers with the required knowledge to follow and actively participate in the activities of the Action. The School was organised in collaboration with COST Action ES0903 . A report is available at the WG2 webpage.

The School was held on 5-9 September, 2011 at Fondazione Mach Centro di Ecologia Alpina, Monte Bondone in Trentino, Northern Italy. Grants for travel and subsistence were provided, according to the COST rules (see Vademecum Grant System) up to a threshold of 900 EUR. The registration fee (90 EUR) was not eligible for reimbursement. Field activity with several instruments was included. Students were organized in groups. A certificate of attendance was given.

The deadline for applying was June 10, 2011.

The School was attended by 19 students. The applications were selected on a geographical and first-come first-serve basis, i.e. the first students from different countries to submit their application form and payment were selected. By June 20 (postponed to July 4), applicants received a message by email to confirm that the application was accepted, and had 10 days to pay the registration fee and send a copy of the bank transfer to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The registration fee was 90 EUR to be paid by bank transfer within 10 days from receiving the confirmation of selection. In very exceptional cases, the payment was on arrival (140 EUR).

How to reach FEM at Viote del Monte Bondone (former Centro di Ecologia Alpina)

The FEM facilities of the former Centro di Ecologia Alpina are located in the village Viote del Monte Bondone, 30 km far from the city of Trento. The altitude is 1500 m a.s.l.. How to get there:

By car:

Coming from Verona (South) or Innsbruck (North) on the A22 motorway, follow the exit signs to TRENTO CENTRO, and then, immediately after, to Riva del Garda and Monte Bondone. Going up on Monte Bondone, follow the signs to the former Centro di Ecologia Alpina .

By bus/shuttle:

From TRENTO bus station (see Googlemaps, 100 m far from the railway station) to Trento-Vason (Hotel Montana)-Viote (25 km - 45 minutes ca) by the public bus company Trentino Trasporti whose buses leave at 7:45, 12:35, 18:00. However, our shuttles will leave on September 5th - at 12:00 from the bus station (RECOMMENDED)

The Viote del Monte Bondone bus stop is 1 km far from the FEM (former Centro di Ecologia Alpina) facilities. Vason (Hotel Montana) bus stop is 3 km far from FEM facilities

On September 9th, shuttle trips to Trento will be available. Also, public transport buses will leave from the Viote del Monte Bondone bust stop at 8:45, 13:35, 16:40, 19:00.


Accommodation at Hotel Montana is provided by the local organiser. You do not need to book by yourself.

Useful information

Although unusual, the weather may be raining in September. Solid shoes, rain jacket, both warm and light cloths, sun glasses, and hat are recommended. Expected temperature is 8 to 30 °C.
